Rolar de Cuyo Taps IBM Food Trust to Provide Insight on the Quality and Origin of its Extra Virgin Olive Oil

– Molinos Río de la Plata and Aceitera General Deheza are some of the clients of this family business from the province of San Juan, Argentina; – Now the company offers transparency that helps ensure the traceability of its natural products. Buenos Aires, October 2, 2020 — Rolar de Cuyo, a company producing high-quality international olive oil, and IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announce that Rolar is using IBM Blockchain to provide traceability for its olive oil across the production chain. This technology monitors the journey of the olive until it is converted into bulk oil, which is bought by renowned companies such as Aceitera General Deheza and Molinos Río de la Plata. According to the International Olive Council (IOC, Argentina produced 20,000 tons of olive oil in 2019 and Federación  Olivícola Argentina (FOA) estimates it will produce between 20,000 and 25,000 tons in 2020, with the vast majority of the country’s production destined for international markets1. “ Our vision is to be the best extra virgin olive oil alternative for large companies that pack the product with their brand. For this reason, from Rolar de Cuyo we want the main extra virgin olive oil buyers worldwide to trust us and choose our products. To help achieve this, IBM blockchain technology provides the transparency we need to trace the origin of our products and support quality compliance processes to reach consumers’ tables,” said Guillermo José Albornoz, Director at Rolar de Cuyo. By joining the IBM Food Trust, Rolar de Cuyo will use IBM blockchain technology on IBM Cloud to monitor the production process, from the moment the olive trees are planted to the selection and harvest of the olives to its conversion into extra virgin. Blockchain technology can help enable greater trust across the supply chain by creating an immutable, digitized record of transactions. Olive farmers and makers can all share information more efficiently using near real-time access to comprehensive product data. “We are increasingly aware of how important it is to know the origin and life cycle of the products we consume. Technology is an important ally in this regard and with IBM Food Trust we provide Rolar de Cuyo with a single source of secured and transparent information about the olives in the olive oils that they produce, helping encourage responsible food consumption throughout the population”, says Fabrizio Carbone, IBM Cloud & Data Manager at IBM Argentina. A recent IBM Institute for Business Value study found 71% of consumers surveyed will pay a premium for full transparency into the products they buy. Using blockchain technology creates a verifiable record of the production of olive oil, which can give consumers confidence in the origin and condition of the products they buy and eat. IBM Food Trust is one of the largest and most active non-crypto blockchain networks in production today, it is available as a subscription service for members of the food ecosystem to join. Several Argentine companies have joined this global network, that is not just for big companies. Recently, the startup S4—dedicated to creating technology to reduce climate and productive risk in crop production—joined the IBM Food Trust and incorporated blockchain technology into its S4Go product. In this way, the company is able to register the geographical location of the lots and their production technical information, creating visibility and responsibility in the origination chain from the initial moment. Bank of Thailand Launches World's First Government Savings Bond on IBM Blockchain Technology

$1.6B USD in government savings bonds were successfully sold within a week of launch BANGKOK, Thailand, Oct. 5, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- SIBOS -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Bank of Thailand (BOT), the central bank, has successfully launched the world's first blockchain-based platform for government savings bonds issuing a total of $1.6B USD within two weeks. Leveraging blockchain technology on the highly secured IBM Cloud, the platform allows investors to benefit from speedy bond issuance, reducing a process that previously took 15 days to two days. The efficiency provided by blockchain also reduces operational complexity and the overall cost of issuing bonds. According to The Thai Bond Market Association, the outstanding Thai bond market stood at $421B USD as of December 2019. Government bonds dominate the Thai market, with outstanding value of $157B USD in 2019 1, accounting for 37% of the total outstanding Thai bond market. In the past, the sale of government savings bonds was a complex, multiparty, time-consuming process that relied on a non-real-time system, with duplicated validation steps and manual reconciliation prone to data errors. As blockchain technology streamlines the processes of bond issuance for issuers, underwriters, registrars, investors and key ecosystem participants, the government savings bond platform now becomes an immutable, real-time single source of truth for network participants, which minimizes the redundant validation and reduces the costs of reconciliation. In addition, Thai investors can now purchase bonds up to the maximum value of their individual allocated quota from a single bank. The effort to develop a secure and efficient government bond infrastructure involved collaboration among eight institutions including BOT, Public Debt Management Office, Thailand Securities Depository Co., Ltd, Thai Bond Market Association and selling-agent banks, including Bangkok Bank, Krungthai Bank, Kasikorn Bank, and Siam Commercial Bank, with IBM Blockchain as technology and cloud platform partner. The benefits and business value of using blockchain technology for government bond distribution is shared across stakeholders, and include faster bond issuance for investors, decreased workloads and processing time for issuers, underwriters and registrars, as well as greater transparency and reduced operating costs across the entire value chain. "Bank of Thailand's success with the government savings bond project is the latest example of how blockchain technology can redefine the way businesses operate by simplifying complex processes resulting in fast, transparent, secured and efficient multiparty collaboration," said Patama Chantaruck, VP for Indochina Expansion and MD of IBM Thailand. "IBM is proud to bring our world-class blockchain platform and IBM Cloud to support Bank of Thailand, and work side-by-side with them in achieving this important milestone for Thailand's financial industry." Bank of Thailand now plans to extend blockchain to all other government bonds targeting both retail and wholesale investors. Thailand is an active adopter of blockchain technology, with a dynamic ecosystem extending to both public and private spheres. In 2019, the electronic letter of guarantee (eLG) platform and network participated in by 22 Thai banks and 15 companies successfully went live and currently handles approximately $300M USD in guarantee letters. Thai Customs Department also became the second government agency in southeast Asia to use TradeLens, a blockchain-based global trade digitization platform that improves the speed, accuracy and security of local and international shipping activities. More pilots and applications of blockchain are also being rolled out to bring transparency and efficiency to finance, insurance, government and other sectors. 1Size of Thai Financial Markets , Issuance of Domestic Bonds , Outstanding Value of Domestic Bonds http://www.thaibma.or.th/EN/Market/SummaryStatistics.aspx About IBM BlockchainIBM is recognized as the leading enterprise blockchain provider. Public marketplace is designed to enable organizations to more easily purchase, deploy and manage enterprise software from a variety of vendors across hybrid cloud environments running Red Hat OpenShift A private, personalized version of the marketplace for enterprises like Anthem offers a curated selection of pre-approved certified software to more efficiently scale and accelerate digital transformation RALEIGH, N.C., and ARMONK, N.Y. – SEPTEMBER 8, 2020 – Red Hat, Inc., the world's leading provider of open source solutions, and IBM (NYSE: IBM), today announced the general availability of Red Hat Marketplace, a one-stop-shop to find, try, buy, deploy and manage enterprise applications across an organization’s hybrid IT infrastructure, including on-premises and multicloud environments. A private, personalized marketplace experience is also available with Red Hat Marketplace Select at an additional cost for enterprises that want additional control and governance with curated software for more efficiency and scale that is pre-approved for that particular enterprise. For companies building cloud-native infrastructure and applications, Red Hat Marketplace is an essential destination for unlocking the value of cloud investments, designed to minimize the barriers facing global organizations as they accelerate innovation. A growing ecosystem of ISVs has embraced the marketplace because it offers them an efficient, vendor-neutral, and data-driven channel for selling and supporting products in enterprise accounts. The growing list of more than 50 commercial products available for purchase includes leading solutions across 12 different categories—including AI/ML, Database, Monitoring, Security, Storage, Big Data, Developer tools, and more—from ISVs such as Anchore, Cockroach Labs, CognitiveScale, Couchbase, Dynatrace, KubeMQ, MemSQL, MongoDB, and StorageOS. New Power in the Customer’s Control As organizations operate within hybrid cloud environments, they are increasingly concerned about governance and control of the applications running in those environments. To address this concern, the private version—Red Hat Marketplace Select—allows clients to not only provide their teams with easy access to curated, pre-approved software, but also to track usage and spending by departments of all the software deployed across hybrid cloud environments. Red Hat Marketplace customers are finding specific and strategic ways to take advantage of the marketplace. Anthem Inc. is pioneering personalized, predictive, and preventative solutions through efforts that include models enabled by AI. To accomplish their mission, they require a hybrid cloud platform that allows for secured data transfer between multiple parties. Anthem has been working closely with CognitiveScale, one of the ISVs on Red Hat Marketplace, and is now ready to move into the next phase by collaborating with Red Hat to create one of the first customized marketplaces for themselves through Red Hat Marketplace Select. Leveraging the Power of Red Hat OpenShift With automated deployment, Red Hat Marketplace makes software instantly available for deployment on any Red Hat OpenShift cluster. Red Hat OpenShift is the industry’s most comprehensive enterprise Kubernetes platform, enabling portable, cloud-native software to run as a managed service by embedding operational expertise alongside the software itself.  Software programs available through Red Hat Marketplace can be deployed across the open hybrid cloud and operate in any environment with minimal set-up and overhead, making management at scale easy. With the integration of the enterprise-grade Kubernetes capabilities within Red Hat OpenShift, organizations can achieve build-once, run-anywhere portability across hybrid cloud platforms. More About Red Hat Marketplace Developers can find popular software across a wide range of categories, including AI, database, monitoring, networking, storage, security and more. Software is certified for Red Hat OpenShift and built with Kubernetes Operators for built-in management logic, including seamless upgrades and patches, backup and recovery, log processing, scaling and more. Metering is enabled for all software purchased through the marketplace, providing  granular visibility into actual usage and spending patterns, helping to minimize waste and address financial risks associated with end-of-year software audits customers will also now have greater choice of pricing models. Red Hat Marketplace allows products to be offered with hourly pricing, enabling experimentation and agility in early-stage development projects.
